Yellowstone National Park tends to be the first place that comes to mind when people think of National Parks. This makes sense - Yellowstone was the first established National Park in the United States. This geological wonder, which sits atop an active super volcano, is an oddity that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. Be prepared to see geothermal springs, geysers, wildlife, and waterfalls - just to name a few!
Get Moving: Lower Falls - You're going to have to earn this one. Think of your future self when doing this trek. It's a relatively easy .8 mile hike down to the bottom. Going up, not so much. It's a steep and gradual climb back up the switchback. But worth it! At the bottom lies an incredible view of the Yellowstone Canyon, complete with a powerful and roaring waterfall.
See the Sun: Grand Prismatic Spring - This is a sight to see. It's as though you were dropped to a different planet - a low-lying boardwalk allows you to hover a few feet above the largest hot spring in the United States. Visitors are surrounded by steam and bubbling water. The minerals in the waters causes different shades of color. Couple this with with the sunrise/sunset reflecting off of the water, and you have a winning combination.
Gram-Worthy: Old Faithful - Arguably the staple of Yellowstone, Old Faithful is the go-to for visitors. Grab a seat in the bleachers surrounding the oddity and watch the geyser blow over a 100 feet into the air! The timing of the geyser is semi-predictable (typically within 90 minute increments) - the best thing is to follow the Yellowstone NPS page (or the Yellowstone App), and plan ahead. You want to give yourself some time - it's not exact science!
Best Drive: Lamar Valley - Driving through Lamar Valley is like traveling in a time machine. It gives you the idea of what life would've looked like hundreds of years ago. Limitless plains, snaking rivers, the backdrop of mountains, and hundreds of bison. Like, everywhere. You'll see ones miles away in the distance, and maybe even one right in front of your car.
Get comfy: The Evergreen Motel - It can't get much more convenient than this. A short walk from several breakfast spots to fuel up, the motel is also .5 miles to the entrance of the park. With reasonable rates and a clean, renovated, and woodsy aesthetic, the Evergreen Motel is the place to stay.
