Along the American/Canadian border sits Voyageurs National Park. This place is unique in that most of what the park has to offer is taken in by boat. However, that isn't the only way to get around! Miles of trails through dense forests, along the views on the water allow for multiple perspectives throughout this culturally and geologically-rich area of the country.
Get Moving: Rainy Lake Visitor Center Trail - After stopping in the Visitor Center, take the trail head near the dock of the Voyageur Boat and get a taste of the terrain. The trail is relatively easy and should be able to be hiked by varying skill levels. Walk through the forest, look at marshes, and USE BUG SPRAY.
Soul Recharge: Beaver Pond Overlook - This .3 mile hike takes you through the dense Minnesotan forest. In the summer, it feels like you are being swallowed by the foliage. A short ascent ends in an elevated view of the pond below. Patient Hikers who stick around may actually see beaver activity!
Gram-Worthy: Kabetogama Lake Overlook - A quick .4 mile hike results in an overlook of Kabetogama Lake. Tall pines line the overlook - take a seat on the soft bed of pine needles and absorb the scenery.
See the Sun: Ash River Visitor Center - Just past the Visitors Center is a small trail that goes along the lakeside. The peaceful trek provides views of Kabetogama Lake. The perspective from the rocky shore showcases countless islands dotting the large body of water. You may even see boat tours going by! This is a great spot for the sunset.
